MELBOURNE, JUNE 2026 — The SafeStudy Film Lab Program officially launched on 19 June 2026 at Creative Asia Art Centre, bringing together international students, filmmakers, community organisations, education partners, and government representatives to celebrate the beginning of a new collaborative filmmaking initiative focused on scam awareness for international students.
The launch event introduced the vision behind SafeStudy Film Lab, a creative education program that empowers international students to produce a public awareness short film addressing online scams and fraud through storytelling, collaboration, and hands-on filmmaking experience.

The program was officially introduced by Sheryl, Chair of the Australian Women & Children Protection Development (AWCPD), who presented the project's objectives, development process, and educational framework. Guests also heard from representatives and community leaders supporting the initiative, including Kay Marssena, Hub Manager at Study Melbourne, Mengli Sun from the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Melbourne, alongside representatives from partner organisations who joined the event to celebrate the launch.

The Creative Asia Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, partners, and attendees for contributing to an inspiring afternoon of dialogue, collaboration, and community engagement. Special thanks also go to SBS Melbourne for its media support in helping raise awareness of the program and its mission to promote scam prevention among international students.
As the program moves into its next stage, SafeStudy Film Lab is currently recruiting Directors and Producers from Melbourne's international student community. Participants will work collaboratively through story development, production, and post-production to create an educational anti-scam short film while gaining practical industry experience.

Alongside the filmmaking program, submissions are also open for Screens in the White Box, a moving image screening program welcoming short films, documentaries, experimental works, video art, animation, and other moving image practices. The screening program aims to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers and artists to present diverse contemporary screen-based works to the public.
Creative Asia Foundation looks forward to welcoming participants, collaborators, and audiences throughout the workshops, production process, and upcoming screening events, continuing to foster creative exchange and meaningful conversations through film.
