Weaving Love, Memory, and Cultural Connection

On 14 August 2026, Threads of Love Exhibition officially opened at Creative Asia Art Centre, Melbourne.

As part of the Double Seventh Cultural Week, the exhibition takes inspiration from the Qixi Festival, and brings together 11 artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, to celebrate the festive tradition under the theme “Weaving Love, Memory, and Cultural Connection”

The opening night welcomed guests from all walks of life, sharing joy and love through the arts, and kicking off the 10-day exhibition characterised with seminar, workshop, and cross-cultural exchange.

The exhibition is hosted by the Australian Women and Children Protection and Development, co-organised by the Creative Asia Foundation and the Romulus Folio Gallery, and held at the Creative Asia Art Centre, located within World Trade Centre Melbourne.

Opening Ceremony

Empowering Love, Women and Cultural Diversity

The opening ceremony was hosted by Curator Dr. Angelina Mirabito and Project Host Scott Ross, and certificates were presented to the exhibition participating artists. Dr. Angelina Mirabito introduced the exhibition theme and praised Dou Jin for her research support in enriching her understanding of the Qixi Festival.

She noted that the exhibition is an elevation and celebration of women’s creativity, craftsmanship, wisdom and creative excellence, as Qixi reminds us these qualities have been cultivated, valued and passed between generations, while we gathered here to continue that lineage and carry it forward.

Sheryl Leigh, Project Director of Creative Asia Foundation and Chairperson of Australia Women and Children Protection and Development (AWCPD), also shared the vision behind the organisations. She highlighted that both the organisations and the exhibition celebrate the empowerment of women, allowing their voices to be heard.

She particularly thanked Dr. Angelina Mirabito for taking up the exhibition project, offering a different perspective towards the Chinese tradition of Qixi, which facilitates cultural and artistic exchanges, as cross-cultural dialogue and diversity remain central to the centre’s mission.

Threads of Love Continues

Running for 10 days at Creative Asia Art Centre, Threads of Love invites audiences to explore love beyond its romantic meaning — through memory, identity, cultural heritage, creativity, and human connection.

It leaves us with a simple thought: love is rarely held in one place or one form. It travels through memory, gestures, traditions, and the stories we carry with us.

Like threads woven across time and cultures, these connections may begin in different places, yet meet here — quietly reminding us of what we share.
