Invitation: In Between 2026 Opening – Exploring the Spaces In Between

MELBOURNE, JULY 2026 — Creative Asia Foundation presents In Between, a contemporary group exhibition bringing together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and creative disciplines at Creative Asia Art Centre.

Featuring works across painting, installation, photography, sculpture, moving image and interdisciplinary practices, the exhibition explores the spaces that exist between identities, cultures, emotions and lived experiences. Rather than presenting identity as fixed or absolute, In Between considers it as something continuously shaped through movement, transition and personal experience.

At its core, the exhibition embraces the "in-between" as a space of possibility—where uncertainty encourages reflection, difference becomes dialogue, and multiple perspectives can coexist without the need for a single definition. Through a range of artistic approaches, participating artists examine themes of belonging, visibility, transformation and self-expression, inviting audiences to engage with the complexity of contemporary life.

Rather than presenting a unified narrative, In Between unfolds through a collection of individual practices and personal stories. Together, these works create an exhibition that encourages conversation, empathy and new ways of understanding ourselves and those around us.

Opening Night Experience

The opening event extends beyond a traditional exhibition launch, bringing together artists, audiences and the wider creative community for an evening of exchange. The program will feature Artist Talks, a live performance and opportunities for visitors to hear directly from participating artists about the ideas and creative processes behind their work.

The official opening ceremony will include remarks from Creative Asia Foundation and introductions from the curatorial team, marking the beginning of a week-long exhibition while celebrating the diversity of contemporary artistic voices.

Best Dressed Award

Adding an interactive element to the evening, the opening night will also feature the In Between Best Dressed Award.

Guests are encouraged to respond to the exhibition theme through fashion, interpreting the idea of "in between" in their own way. Throughout the evening, attendees will vote for their favourite look, before selected participants are invited to share the inspiration behind their outfits. The winner of the Best Dressed Award will receive a special prize, celebrating creativity, individuality and self-expression beyond the gallery walls.

As with previous Creative Asia Foundation exhibitions, In Between extends beyond exhibition-making by fostering dialogue between artists, audiences and community. Through contemporary art, public engagement and shared experiences, the exhibition continues the Foundation's commitment to creating spaces where diverse voices can be seen, heard and celebrated.
