A Curated Exhibition & Screening Program: Exploring Contemporary Moving Image Practices

Creative Asia Art Centre (CAAC) is pleased to announce the open call for Screens in the White Box – Moving Image Showcase, an eight-day exhibition and screening program dedicated to contemporary moving image practices across diverse creative disciplines.

Taking place from 11-19 July 2026 at Creative Asia Art Centre, the project brings together filmmakers, experimental moving image artists, video creators, photographers, and interdisciplinary practitioners working across cinematic and exhibition-based image practices.

In an era shaped by rapidly evolving image technologies and the growing impact of AI, moving image practices are undergoing constant transformation. Across these shifting conditions, creators continue to capture fleeting moments, explore new visual languages, and engage with memory, identity, perception, and contemporary social realities through deeply personal and experimental forms of expression.

Instead of simply treating the film as the content projected onto the screen, Screens in the White Box – Moving Image Showcase seeks to reposition moving image within an exhibition context. Here, film may operate as installation, looping visual environment, spatial intervention, or part of an evolving artistic process. Situated within the white-cube gallery environment of CAAC, the project explores new relationships between cinema, space, audiences, and contemporary art practice.

Through screenings, exhibitions, artist conversations, and public programs, the project aims to provide an intimate yet professional platform for emerging and independent creators to present their practices, connect more directly with audiences, and foster new forms of collaboration and creative dialogue across different cultural backgrounds.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

We welcome submissions across a wide range of moving image practices, including:

· Fiction and non-fiction films

· Experimental cinema and essay films

· Music videos

· Video art and exhibition-based moving image works

Applications are open to local and international creators working across moving image, cinema, audiovisual, and interdisciplinary practices. Artists exploring hybrid formats, expanded cinema, installation-based presentation, and non-traditional approaches to image-making are especially encouraged to apply.

PUBLIC PROGRAMS & AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT

Safestudy Film Lab Program extends this platform beyond the exhibition period by providing workshops, mentorship, collaborative production and public exhibition opportunities for emerging filmmakers, moving image artists, and young creators.
