Beneath One Moon Exhibition Opens at Creative Asia Art Centre in Melbourne
One Sky, One World, One Community
On 26 September 2026, Beneath One Moon exhibition officially opened at Creative Asia Art Centre, Melbourne.
Inspired by the moon as a timeless symbol of reunion and connection, as well as the history and cultural traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the exhibition brings together works by 12 artists from various cultures, alongside a vibrant selection of children’s artworks from the Multicultural Youth Art Competition 2026. Celebrating creativity across generations, and a shared hope for peace, the exhibition also features a special showcase of peace posters from previous years, offering contemporary artistic perspectives on themes of peace, belonging, cultural connection and togetherness.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition coincides with the awards ceremony of the Multicultural Youth Art Competition 2026, in which many promising young artists attended with their families, to receive their awards and share in the joy. The opening ceremony kicked off the 16-day exhibition, which runs until 9 October 2026, creating dialogues between past and present, local communities and international voices — all gathered beneath the same moon.

The exhibition and competition are jointly organised by Creative Asia Foundation (CAF) and the Lions Club of Melbourne Ausina, and held at Creative Asia Art Centre, located within the World Trade Centre Melbourne.

Opening Ceremony
Art Connects Us Beneath One Moon
The opening ceremony was hosted by Mia Wang, followed by the awards ceremony of the Multicultural Youth Art Competition 2026 and artist talk.
During the opening remarks, Sheryl Leigh, Executive Director of CAF, shared her thoughts on the Mid-Autumn Festival and vision behind the exhibition. She mentioned that Mid-Autumn and the moon stand for reunion and remembrance in Chinese culture, yet she found unique expressions of them through the works of different artists. She encouraged visitors to look at the artworks closely and chat with the artists, to learn about their stories, which may ignite a spark or resonance in life. She also gave a shout-out to Project Manager Christine Shao, and Curator Camellia Niu and Aileen Yue for making this happen. And she wished that under the same moon, people living away from their hometown in Melbourne could build mutual understanding, and emotional connection across cultures and borders via this exhibition.

For the awards ceremony, esteemed guest Cr Larry Zhao presented the certificates and prizes to the award winners. He acknowledged CAF’s effort in organising the youth art competition and exhibition, which provided significant recognition for young talents in their creative journeys, while enlivening the space with a burst of youthful energy. He also encouraged young artists to persevere in their artistic paths, and may they flourish in their crafts.
