Open Call for Artists: Buffer Room — A Space Between Movement and Belonging

MELBOURNE, 5 Jun 2026 — Buffer Room is an upcoming group exhibition exploring what it means to feel “at home” in a world shaped by constant movement.
In today’s highly mobile and multicultural context, belonging is no longer tied to a fixed place. Instead, it is formed through fragments — objects we carry, sounds we remember, habits we repeat. These subtle elements become a portable sense of home, grounding us as we move between cities, cultures, and identities.
Buffer Room transforms the gallery into a lived-in, transitional space — one that exists between staying and leaving. Rather than presenting home as a stable destination, the exhibition approaches it as something continuously formed in motion.
“Buffer Room is a space to pause—where you don’t need to arrive or define, but simply exist in between.” — Curatorial Team
Bringing together works across installation, painting, moving image, sculpture, and performance, the exhibition invites audiences to move beyond observation. Visitors are encouraged to linger, to reflect, and to reconnect with their own experiences of memory, displacement, and belonging.
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
We are currently inviting artists across all disciplines to be part of Buffer Room.
We are seeking works that engage with:

Artists are encouraged to respond freely — whether through personal narratives, sensory environments, or spatial experimentation.
