Multicultural Art Festival 2025 Launches in Melbourne this October — Celebrating Creativity Without Borders

Updated: Sep 13

MELBOURNE, 12 SEP 2025 — This October, the city will play host to a month-long celebration of culture, connection, and creativity as the Multicultural Art Festival 2025 takes centre stage. Organised by the Creative Asia Foundation, the Festival runs from 26 October to 25 November and promises to be one of the year’s most compelling cultural gatherings, bringing together artists, communities, and audiences from across the globe.

The Multicultural Art Festival is more than an exhibition—it is a living platform for dialogue, collaboration, and discovery. This year, the Festival will present a rich program of events, including the Multicultural Art Fair, intimate Solo Exhibitions, dynamic Collaborative Showcases, and the thought-provoking Australasian Artist Talks. Further programs will be announced in the coming weeks. Each event offers audiences the opportunity to experience art not only as an aesthetic encounter but also as a transformative force for connection across cultures.

At the heart of this year’s Festival is the theme “Layered Thinking — Exploring Identity, Complexity, and the Coexistence of Multiple Perspectives.” This curatorial lens invites audiences and artists alike to engage with identity as a mosaic of histories, memories, and lived experiences. Rather than reducing culture to a single narrative, the Festival highlights how diversity and complexity generate creativity, dialogue, and innovation.

“Layered Thinking asks us to see beyond the surface, to explore the unseen layers that shape who we are and how we connect. In a time when global change and cultural intersections are shaping new realities, art offers us a way to embrace contradiction, hold nuance, and imagine new possibilities together." — CAF Spokesperson.

The Festival underscores the role of art as a bridge between traditions and contemporary expression, celebrating voices that reflect the diversity of our multicultural societies. From visual arts to performance, from installations to public talks, every work and encounter is designed to inspire audiences to question, reflect, and reimagine the world around them.

Audiences are invited to take part in this month-long journey—one that transcends geographical, cultural, and generational boundaries. Whether through discovering new artists, participating in critical conversations, or simply experiencing the joy of cultural exchange, the Multicultural Art Festival 2025 reaffirms that art has the power to connect us all.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS

The Festival is now accepting submissions from artists across all disciplines—visual art, performance, multimedia, and interdisciplinary practices. Artists are invited to respond to the Festival’s theme, Layered Thinking, by creating works that explore identity, complexity, and the coexistence of multiple perspectives. Applications are open until 19 October 2025 via official online submission portal.
